RULES FOR PAPER SUBMISSION

The XX Brazilian Congress of Sports Sciences and VII International Congress of Sports Sciences will hold four different modalities of paper presentations: poster; oral communication; photography; and videos. These last two modalities are in the Images Room (Sala de Imagens - SIM).

The submission period for oral communication and posters is from February 1st to April 23st, 2017. The expected date to announce the list of approved papers is May 17th, 2017.

The submission period for the photography and video modalities is from April 3rd to June 11st, 2017. The expected date for the list of approved submissions is July 10th, 2017.

The submission of papers will take place through SOAC, where the event proceedings will also be available in the future.

ATTENTION - to complete your submission on papers with up to 3(three) authors, at least one author must confirm and pay his or her registration in the event. On papers with four (4) to six (6) authors, at least two authors must confirm their registration to complete the submission.

 

ORAL COMMUNICATION - Expanded Abstract
  1. Papers submitted for the expanded abstract format should be about finished research studies. They will be presented as an oral communication.
  2. For the expanded abstract format, each participant can send a maximum of two (02) texts as author and co-author;
  3. On papers with four or more authors, we require that all authors specify the individual responsibilities of each author in the paper. For example, "Author X is responsible for..." in the section"Comments to the Editor" (At the bottom of the page of Step 1: Start submissionon the online platform SOAC)Author Y is responsible for...Author Z is responsible for..., etc.";
  4. Papers will be accepted in English, Portuguese, and Spanish;
  5. Submit all papers via SOAC. Save your paper in Microsoft Word format, without any identification of authorship. The metadata must be filled out with the paper's title, authors' names, institutions, countries, and email addresses. In the "Biography Summary" - which is a REQUIRED field box - you must provide the following information: current academic situation, institution where the author(s) works, city, state, and country (of all the authors), postal address, telephone and fax (of the main author of the paper);
  6. Type your paper on Word for Windows, with the following format: Times New Roman, size 14 (title) and size 12 (text), 1.5 spacing, no spacing between paragraphs, and displacement of 1.25 cm in the first line (except for citations over three lines long), on A4 pages. Top and bottom margins of 4 cm, right and left margins of 2.5 cm. Citations over three lines long, footnotes, captions, and sources of illustrations, pictures, and tables must be insize-11 font. We suggest that the expanded abstracts must contain objective, method, results, and conclusion.
  7. Papers must have a maximum ]of 14,000 characters (Counting spaces, summary, references, title, and authorship); to count the characters in Word, select the option  Word count in Tools;
  8. The title must be short and relate in a specific and descriptive way to the paper. English and Spanish translations must follow;
  9. An informative abstract must be written to include objective, method, results, and conclusions. English and Spanish translations must follow. Each abstract must have a maximum of 500 characters(including spaces).
  10. Keywords (Palabras clave, Palavras-chave) must be three terms that relate with the paper in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, separated by semicolons. We recommend using the Health Science Descriptors (DeCS) available at http://decs.bvs.br;
  11. The paper presentation must be in the following order on every page: 1) Informative and concise title in Portuguese (or the language in which you submit the article): capital letters and centered (no bold); 2) Keywords: in Portuguese (or the language in which you submit the article), three terms separated by semicolons immediately below the abstract; 3) Textual elements (text body following the corresponding structure for each selected section). Note: Section titles must be typed in capital letters and aligned to the left, not using bold for any prominence throughout the paper, including section titles; 4) Title in English (Centered, no bold and only initial capital letters); 5) Abstract: In italics and with a maximum of 360 characters including spacing; 6) Keywords: Three terms separated by semicolons; 7) Title in Spanish (Centered, no bold font, and only initial uppercases); 8) Resumen: In italics and with a maximum of 360 characters, including spacing; 9) Palabras Claves: three terms separated by semicolons; 10) References (According to RBCE rules). For further clarification, view the recommended presentation of textual elements in the following examples (TEMPLATE and EXAMPLE);
  12. Add footnotes with sequential Arabic numbers, immediately after the related sentence. The footnotes should be on their corresponding page. NOTE: Do not insert complete references in the footnotes; use them only as a reference in the same template for the full text. The References section at the end of the paper must include: 
  13. Mention acknowledgments and mentions of research development agencies as a footnote;
  14. We require you to inform in the paper each and every financial aid or grant received to carry out the research. Mention your funding agency, procurement and case number as a footnote on the paper's title on the first page, and in Step 2: Metadata submissionin the specific field Funding Agencies (At the bottom of the submission page). In the case your paper did not involve any financial support, add the following information both in the field mentioned above and in the paper (as a footnote on the first page): This research paper did not have any financial support for its completion. Papers that declare some financial support will state this information on the research paper as a footnote;
  15. Use an Appendix in the case of extensive lists, statistics, and other support elements;
  16. When applicable, display your illustrations and tables within the research paper, with their most convenient position at the authors' discretion, with numbers and titles as well as their sources. Send your images in high definition (300 dpi, TIF format), with specific authorization for each (in writing and notarized) informing that the image publication was allowed in the paper specifically for this purpose. In the case of photographs, permission must be given by the photographer (even when the photographer is the author of the paper) and by the photographed subjects. Images whose author(s) died over 71 years ago are already public domain and therefore do not require authorization. Captions and sources for illustration, images, and tables should be in font size 11;
  17. Use References according to NBR 6023/2003, typed in singlespacing. The accuracy and adequacy of text references that have been consulted and mentioned in the research paper are the author's responsibility. Do not include information deriving from personal communication, texts in progress, and unpublished papers in the reference list; instead, mention them in footnotes.

The paper presentation must adopt the following order on every page: 

  1. Informative and concise title in Portuguese (or in the language in which you submit the article) in all caps and centered position (no bold);
  2. Keywords in Portuguese (or the language in which you submit the article); 3 terms separated by semicolons immediately below the abstract. We recommend using the Health Science Descriptors (DeCS), which are available at http://decs.bvs.br;
  3. Textual elements (text body following the corresponding structure for each selected section).

Observation: type subsection titles in all caps, aligned to the left; bold must not be used to highlight anything throughout the text, including subsections;

  1. Title in English (centered, no bold and initial capitalization only);
  2. Abstract: in italics, maximum of 500 characters, including spacing;
  3. Keywords: 3 terms separated by semicolons;
  4. Title in Spanish (centered, no bold, and initial capitalization only);
  5. Abstract: in italics, maximum of 500 characters, including spacing;
  6. Palabras clave: 3 terms in Spanish separated by semicolons;

Text appraisals will be carried out by the Thematic Workgroups, according to the authors' referral at the time of submission. Approved and presented texts will be published in the event proceedings.

POSTER - Simple abstract
  1. Texts submitted for simple resume format should be the results of scientific research or experience or practice of teaching and learning. They will be presented in posters.
  2. Submit posters in simple abstracts with up to 5,000 characters including spaces with the following information: Title; authors' names (title, institution and e-mail address); Keywords (maximum of three); introduction/justification/theoretical basis; purposes; method; analysis and discussion; conclusions; references; funding source;
  3. The poster text can be written in Portuguese, English, or Spanish and must contain only text;
  4. The full names of the authors must be displayed;
  5. Type your papers on Word for Windows, with the following format: Times New Roman, size 14 (title) and size 12 (text), 1.5 spacing, no spacing between paragraphs, and displacement of 1.25 cm in the first line (except for citations over three lines long), on A4 pages. Top and bottom margins of 4 cm, right and left margins of 2.5 cm. Citations over three lines long, footnotes, captions and sources of illustrations, pictures, and tables must be in thesize-11 font.
  6. References and citations in the text must abide by NBR 6023/2003;
  7. Simple abstracts must not contain information such as tables, graphs, images of any kind, or photos (which can be placed in the poster, if applicable);
  8. Simple abstracts of more than six (6) authors (including the advisor); abstracts with a mere project description, text intent; texts with preliminary results; abstracts of literature review; texts that are not characterized as scientific research or experience or practice of teaching and learning; abstracts without rigorous grammar and review, proofreading, typing, content and research data; abstracts with tables, charts, photos, pictures of any kind; will not be accepted.
  9. To format and submit a text, use the TEMPLATE.

Final remarks

  1. Before submitting your text, prepare your files using the template and always follow the rules to prevent automatic rejection;
  2. Failure to comply with rules for text submission will result in text dismissal by the Scientific Committee;
  3. The content of the texts will be the sole responsibility of (the) author(s), and will not be carried out by the event organization;
  4. The organizing committee and the scientific committee are not responsible for any problems (including viruses) that prevent the opening of the files;
  5. The texts should follow the new grammatical rules of the Portuguese language in effect since January 1st, 2009;
  6. The material accepted for presentation and publishing will be used in its original version, that is, uploaded files are not subject to replacement and amendments to them;
  7. If the committee identifies a third text sent for the extended summary format or others by the same author/co-author, they will be disregarded. The online submission system SOAC shows the date and time each text was sent;
  8. Only texts approved and effectively presented by one of its authors, will be made available in electronic event proceedings and will receive a certificate for presentation;
  9. Papers should be submitted by authors registered in the event;

Submission checklist

  1. The submission file is in .doc format (Microsoft Word);
  2. All Internet addresses (URLs) included in the paper (e.g.: http://www.cbce.org.br) are active and ready to use.
  3. The text is in 1.5 spacing (extended summary) or 1.0 (simple summary); uses size-12 font; uses italics rather than underlining (except for URL addresses); figures and tables inserted within the text, not in the end.
  4. The text uses the template with the Congress visual identity and bibliographic requirements as outlined in Submission Rules, which are available in the sections "About the Congress" and "Guidelines for Authors."
  5. Authorship mentions were removed from the document as well as in any reference that identifies authorship. Save all Microsoft Office documents must by accessing the File menu option Save As; then clicking on Tools (or Options on a Mac); clicking on Security; choosing "Remove personal information from file properties"; and clicking on Save.

PHOTOS AND VIDEOS - Image Room

1. Submissions will be accepted in the "Photography" and "Video" categories. Works should be primarily related to the theme of the XX CONBRACE and VII CONICE: "Democracy and Emancipation: Challenges for Physical Education and Sports Sciences in Latin America."

2. The period for submission of works to the Image Room is from April 3rd to June 11st, 2017.

3. Submissions may be individual or collective, provided that at least one of the authors is registered for the event. Each author may submit up to 6 photographs and one vide.

4. Submission consists of completing the online registration form (available during the submission period) and sending the visual material (photos and videos). Confirmation of submission is conditional upon the notice of received material by the SIM committee.

5. Participants, when submitting the paper, declare that all elements used or included in the project do not violate any rights of image use or intellectual property of others, and agree to assume sole liability for claims, lawsuit, or litigation, due to either directly or indirectly public displaying or using these works.

 

Specific rules

PHOTOGRAPHY

  • Up to 6 photographs by author/group will be accepted.
  • Photographs must be in high resolution (1,500 pixels on the largest side, 300 dpi).
  • Titles on photos at the exhibit are optional.
  • Authors must fill out the online registration form (available during the submission period) and send the photos in digital format to sim.conbrace@gmail.com. The "subject" field should contain the full name of the first author and the registration modality (e.g.: Full Name of Author - PHOTOGRAPHY).
  • Digital files sent by e-mail must be identifiedaccordingto the following model: authorfullname_fotografia01.
  • Submissions made after the submission period will be disregarded.

VIDEOS

  • Videos submitted to SIM should have a maximum duration of 10 minutes and are required to include the title and closing credits. Videos will be accepted only in ".avi" or ".mpeg" formats.
  • Closing credits must identify authorship (when available) of the following elements: script, images, animations, expressions, soundtrack, photography, editing, direction, among others.
  • Videos may be submitted in the following categories:
  • Documentary: Videos that explore reality, and inspire contemplation on the contemporary social universe. This category can consider ethnographic videos, videos of journalistic content, research reports, extension, and education, among others.
  • Fiction: Videos that favors imaginary narratives, even if inspired by real events.
  • Animation: Videos which production process favors audiovisual animation techniques.
  • Upload your video for review (in the highest possible quality) through one of the websites below:

  • YouTube - www.youtube.com

(The SIM committee will provide a video upload tutorial during the submission period).

  • Authors must fill out the online registration form (available during the submission period) and add a link to access the video in the appropriate field box.
  • Submissions made after the submission period will be disregarded.

 

APPRAISAL AND SELECTION OF PHOTOGRAPHS AND VIDEOS:

 The works (photographs and videos) will be assessed by the organizing committee of the Image Room, according to the following criteria:

Originality;

Creativity;

Appropriateness to the theme of the XX CONBRACE / VII CONICE.

The expected date for the list of approved papers is July 10th, 2017.

 

AFTER APPROVAL

  • The APPROVED photographs should be printed in photographic paper size 30x40cm (in color or black and white).
  • Photographs must be sent by post to the SIM committee until July 31st, 2017 (Valid posting date). Identification tags with the photograph title (when applicable) and the authors’ names must be on the back of each photograph.
  • Failing to send the printed version or sending printed images that do not follow specifications will be cause for dismissal from the exhibit.

AT CONBRACE

1. The photos and videos will be organized for the exhibit by the SIM organizing committee on 09.16th.2017.

2. The authors cannot change this display, whose purpose is to bring in visitors to a multisensory reflection on the theme.

3. The exhibit will be open to visitors on the days of the Congress (September 17th to 21st).

4. Authors must attend the public debate on a date that will be announcedsoon and will be entitled to a certificate of participation.

5. Works must be removed by the authors at the end of the Congress. Unclaimed works will become part of the memory archive of the Image Room.
